Typo correction in encyclopedia entry for Democratic Review

Matt Cohen noticed that the first occurrence of the name of John L. O'Sullivan had been misspelled. I have corrected.

 Ken noticed that the "d" was missing from the word "named" in the first sentence. Now corrected.

Two typo corrections in criticism section

Ken noticed that the encyclopedia entry for "A Broadway Pageant" had misspelled the title as "A Broadway Pagaent" and that an "s" was missing from the end of Fredson Bowers's name in a paragraph of Hershel Parker's "The Real 'Live Oak, with Moss': Straight Talk about Whitman's 'Gay Manifesto'" (anc.00157). These typos are now corrected.

Minor corrections made in two encyclopedia entries and one manuscript transcription

Stefan Schöberlein pointed out that the entry for the New Orleans Crescent (https://whitmanarchive.org/criticism/current/encyclopedia/entry_36.html) was missing a space between words and had perpetuated from the print edition a misspelling of the last name of Durant DaPonte as "Da Poute." Our transcription of med.00725, which was based on the works of Grier and Holloway, included this same misspelling. Finally, the entry for New Orleans, Louisiana had referred to "Fremont House" instead of the correct "Tremont House." I have now corrected each of these errors.

Correction of facts in encyclopedia entry for New Orleans Crescent

Stefan Schöberlein pointed out that this entry contained an error in the title of Whitman's poem and gave the wrong date of publication. Ed supplied corrected text, which I have swapped into the XML file.

Correction to encyclopedia entry for Leaves of Grass 1891-1892

Two different people pointed out to Ed Folsom that the article by R. W. French about the 1891-92 edition of Leaves (https://whitmanarchive.org/criticism/current/encyclopedia/entry_27.html) incorrectly gave the number of new poems in the first annex as sixty-four (rather than sixty-five). I have corrected this.

Corrected Maire Mullins's name in encyclopedia

Ken noticed that Maire Mullins's first name had been misspelled "Marie" in the entries for both "From Pent-up Aching Rivers" (1860) and "A Woman Waits for Me" (1856). I have now corrected it.

Kummings (New York: Garland Publishing, 1998) are now available on the Whitman Archive encyclopedia index page, bringing the total number of available entries to 754 and completing our work on the encyclopedia. revision to Encyclopedia entry for the 1855 Leaves

About ten days ago, Brett posted a revised version of Ivan Marki's encyclopedia entry on the 1855 Leaves of Grass. Ed Folsom updated the entry taking account of many new discoveries.

Blue Book entry added to the encyclopedia

This entry, by Arthur Golden, was not one of the 80 originally transcribed, so I proofread from the recently received pre-publication file and then added it to the XML file that holds all the selected entries. This was necessary so that I could provide users with the text from the "about" link for the Blue Book on the Leaves of Grass index page.
