Corrected link from photograph and revised information about photographers

Ed noticed that the page for "Walt Whitman by Frank P. Harned, ca. 1886 - ca. 1887" (zzz.00096) linked to an old version of our "Notes on Whitman's Photographers." He also provided updated information about the Edy Brothers, which I have incorporated into that page.

Missing page images added to the 1871 LG

 Archive user Paul Derkinderen drew our attention to the fact that our transcription of the 1871 Leaves of Grass lacked an image of p. 77 and, instead, showed p. 76 twice. After investigating further, I discovered that the problem was in the original scans themselves and that we also lacked scans of the covers and spine. Staff from UVa Special Collections located the volume that they had scanned for us about 20 years ago and scanned the missing pages/parts. I have processed the images and updated the encoding to incorporate references to those new images.

Image links in Yale manuscript catalog correted

Dr. Jay Grossman pointed out that a number of image links were broken in the catalog of Whitman manuscripts held at Yale University's Beinecke Library. The links in question were for items yal.00338, yal.00454, and yal.00455. The links have been fixed. We thank Prof. Grossman for pointing out the error.

Information about loc.00052 ("sorrow") corrected

Both the TEI transcription of and EAD record for this manuscript were missing links to some of the page images. I've added those and corrected the information in the tracking database.

New York Aurora page images now available on Whitman Archive

As of this morning, page images of the New York Aurora from February through April 1842 are available on the Archive. To accommodate this material, I've created a new index page for Whitman's contributions to periodicals. The "periodicals" link from the home page now goes to this new page, which provides access both to Whitman's poems first published in periodicals and to the Aurora.

Page "header" to Blue Book page images adjusted

I've implemented a couple of small changes to the text of the title that appears in the grey border over these pages.

I've created a "page flipper" for the Blue Book and added a link to it from the Leaves of Grass index page (under the 1860 edition).

Indexing of gallery re-enabled

At the just-finished Whitman camp (our annual planning meeting), Travis argued compellingly for allowing search engines to index the photographs. As there were no objections, I've edited the robots.txt file to do this.

I have updated The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens Finding Aid, to reflect our style guide. Moreover, I added verso images of manuscripts, and corrected the images for the manuscript "To Other Lands."

I have updated the following Finding Aids, to reflect our style guide: American Antiquarian Society; Amherst College (also, made titles consistent, and corrected publication dates for “[It is in itself]”); Boston Public Library (also, corrected duplicate images for “Eidólons,” “To a Locomotive in Winter,” “Religions – Gods,” and “[You don’t want something to wrestle with you]”); Boston University (also, made titles consistent); Brigham Young University (also, added a blank verso image); British Library (also, made titles consistent); University of California, Berkeley; Dartmouth College; and Harvard University (also, made titles consistent).

missing Blue Book images processed, uploaded; NYPL-Lion Finding Guide updated

I have processed and uploaded the missing images for pages 228-239 of the Blue Book to the manuscripts/figures directory and have updated the NYPL-Lion Finding Guide. (The Integrated Guide should ingest these updates within 24 hours.) These images were on a CD that apparently had been overlooked when the other images were processed.

Please note that there is still no image for page 227. I am looking into whether an image for the page was included with the Blue Book scans, and I have not yet located it.

link to Integrated Guide added to poetry manuscripts index page

Following discussion at Camp and in consultation with Ken, I've added a link to the Integrated Guide from the Poetry Manuscripts index page, http://www.whitmanarchive.org/manuscripts/transcriptions/index.html

The purpose of the addition is to cue users to the fact that even if we have not transcribed a poetry manuscript, images of the manuscript are most likely available via the Integrated Guide.
