Corrections to 1881–82 Leaves of Grass transcription

Ed noticed two errors in the transcription for the 1881–82 Leaves of Grass. On page 381, in the poem "So Long," I have corrected "noticeabsorbing" to "notice absorbing" and added a hyphen in the penultimate line on that same page (in the middle of the word "muscle").

New interview added

Rob Marland kindly alerted me to the existence of a heretofore uncollected Whitman interview in the Buffalo Express on 25 May 1890. I have finished transcribing, encoding, and proofreading, so I am publishing it to the interviews and reminiscences section.

Corrected typo on page about New-York Times

Stephanie noticed a typo in one of the bibliographic entries on the Archive's page about the New-York Times. On that page, the title of the book by George H. Douglas was mistakenly listed as The Golden Age of the Newspapper. The spelling of the word "Newspaper" has been corrected.

Two typo corrections in criticism section

Ken noticed that the encyclopedia entry for "A Broadway Pageant" had misspelled the title as "A Broadway Pagaent" and that an "s" was missing from the end of Fredson Bowers's name in a paragraph of Hershel Parker's "The Real 'Live Oak, with Moss': Straight Talk about Whitman's 'Gay Manifesto'" (anc.00157). These typos are now corrected.

Corrected several linegroup tags in 1881-1882 and 1891-1892 Leaves of Grass

User Alvaro Bernarde alerted us to six instances of <lg type="lingegroup"> in the deathbed edn. and to one instance in which <lg> had no @type. Because the 1881-1882 transcription originated from the same source and therefore often shares problems with the 1891-1892 edition, I also checked that file and found three instances of the first problem and one instance of <lg> with no @type. I have changed all of these to <lg type="linegroup">.

Added C19 podcast episode to "Articles and Interviews about the Archive" page

The Whitman Archive journalism grant team recently made a podcast which was accepted and published as part of C19's podcast series. The episode discussed the Archive's current grant to identify and edit Whitman's editorials in the Brooklyn Daily Times. I have added an entry for the podcast, and a link to it, on the "Articles and Interviews about the Archive" page.

Corrections to 1871-1872 and 1891-1892 Leaves of Grass transcriptions

Ken spotted a typo in the 1871-1872 "Respondez!" ("obscencly" for "obscenely" on p. 335). User Ira Chernus noticed that the last five poems of the "Fancies at Navesink" cluster were missing from the "individual poems and clusters" view of the 1891-1892 edition. I have corrected both errors.

Fixed broken link in "Interviews" index

Ashlyn noticed that there was a broken link on the "Interviews" index page. The link to James Scovel's "Walt Whitman: The Author of 'Leaves of Grass' at Home" (16 June 1885) was broken (it was attempting to link to an incorrect item that was not in the interviews directory); I have fixed the problem.

Two typos corrected in With Walt Whitman in Camden

I noticed a typo in the entry for 1889-01-01 (vol. 3, p. 439) and Ed noticed one in the entry for 1888-06-21 (vol. 1, p. 364). I have corrected both.

Page number corrected for 12 March 1865 piece of journalism

Ken called my attention to the fact that the metadata for per.00204, a New-York Times article titled "Washington," erroneously listed the page number as 3 rather than 5. I have now corrected this in the TEI header for per.00204 and in the HTML index page for the journalism.
