Page number corrected for 12 March 1865 piece of journalism

 Ken called my attention to the fact that the metadata for per.00204, a New-York Times article titled "Washington," erroneously listed the page number as 3 rather than 5. I have now corrected this in the TEI header for per.00204 and in the HTML index page for the journalism.

"Manly Health and Training" and Additional Editorials Published

Whitman's 1858 newspaper series "Manly Health and Training" has just been published, with an introduction and annotations by Zachary Turpin (University of Idaho). We have also published 20 new editorials likely written by Whitman for the New York Aurora. Additionally, we have written editorial notes for each piece of journalism, explaining the Archive's rationale for attributing the piece to Whitman in the absence of an explicit "Walt Whitman" byline. 

The journalism index page has been updated to reflex this new additions.

Annotation removed from piece of journalism

We have removed an annotation from an editorial in the New York Aurora (per.00390), deeming it confusing and unnecessary. The annotation in question was previously the third in this editorial.

On a tip from Archive user Mary L. Shearer, Jason Stacy has corrected the identification of "Miss Woodhull" in this article.

Typos corrected in "Letters from a Traveling Bachelor"

Jason Stacy pointed out two errors in annotations for the "Letters from a Traveling Bachelor" journalistic series. In note 8 for the installment of 4 November 1849, Charles S. Watrous was incorrectly identified as "Charles S. Waltrous." And in note 7 for the installment of 25 November 1849, the Dutch artist Ary Schefler was incorrectly identified as "Ary Scheffer." Both errors have been corrected.

Corrected note in "Letters from a Travelling Bachelor"

Jason Stacy noticed that one of the 14 October 1849 "Letters from a Travelling Bachelor" contained a note with the same erroneous information about porgies that we recently corrected in the "Letters from Paumanok" essay. He rewrote the note and I swapped it into the file.

User Drew Fetherston pointed out that our first note to the 27 June 1851 installment of "Letters from Paumanok" erroneously confounded porgies and mossbunkers/menhaden. Jason Stacy rewrote the note, crediting Fetherston.

"Travelling Bachelor" series published

I have published Whitman's journalistic series, "Letters from a
Travelling Bachelor" in the Journalism section of the Archive. The
series has been edited for the Whitman Archive by Jason Stacy, and the
edition has been developed with the support of the National Endowment
for the Humanities.

Correction to display affecting journalism

The stylesheet was causing an irregular display for footnotes that
appeared within postscripts to correspondence (e.g.,
http://www.whitmanarchive.org/published/periodical/journalism/tei/per.00210.html),
such that the text of the footnotes appeared both in the postscript
and in the footnotes section. I have fixed the problem so that the
footnote anchor appears in the postscript and the text of the footnote
itself appears in the appropriate footnotes section.

Formatting correction to Brooklyniana, Nos. 4, 7, and 8

The argument in each of these had been formatted based on Holloway's transcription. I've corrected the formatting to agree with the list structure used in the original newspaper printings.
