Missing page images added to the 1871 LG

 Archive user Paul Derkinderen drew our attention to the fact that our transcription of the 1871 Leaves of Grass lacked an image of p. 77 and, instead, showed p. 76 twice. After investigating further, I discovered that the problem was in the original scans themselves and that we also lacked scans of the covers and spine. Staff from UVa Special Collections located the volume that they had scanned for us about 20 years ago and scanned the missing pages/parts. I have processed the images and updated the encoding to incorporate references to those new images.

Call number of copy used for LG 1871 corrected

Penny White, reference librarian at the Albert & Shirley Small Special Collections Library (University of Virginia) pointed out that they have only one copy designated "PS3201 1871," so I have removed "(copy 1)" from the metadata in our transcription of that volume.

Titles of Whitman documentary corrected

 We were informed that we had incorrectly titled a Whitman documentary linked to from our new "Whitman in Film" section; the name of the two-part documentary is In Search of Walt Whitman, not Searching for Walt Whitman. We have corrected the error.

New image gallery published

 We have published a completely redesigned and updated gallery of portraits of Whitman. The new version of the gallery offers an easier and more robust search, improved scans of many of the portraits, and a revised set of notes about all of Whitman’s photographers. The index page of the gallery now allows users to see thumbnail versions of all the portraits on one page; clicking on any thumbnail image brings up a large scan of the image, along with information about the place, date, creator, and circumstances of the photograph, as well as information about the physical image and its location. Most recently, this work was led by Alex Ashland and Ed Folsom.

Whitman in Film subsection added to "Pictures and Sound" page

 We have added a subsection to the "Pictures and Sound" index page, containing links to several useful films about Whitman. We plan to expand this section more in the future.

Changes made to staff page

 In addition to updating the WWA staff page to reflect the new staff for the academic year we have also slightly re-arranged the page, creating sections within the staff list for "Co-Directors," "Project Managers and Associate Editors," and "Archive Staff." This was done to acknowledge and differentiate the work of  full-time Archive staff members.

Typo Corrected in '"Backward Glance," Leaves of Grass (1891-1892)

 Astute reader Ira Chernus alerted us to an error on p. 429, where we had "it not always" for "if not always." I have made the correction.
