missing Blue Book images processed, uploaded; NYPL-Lion Finding Guide updated

I have processed and uploaded the missing images for pages 228-239 of the Blue Book to the manuscripts/figures directory and have updated the NYPL-Lion Finding Guide. (The Integrated Guide should ingest these updates within 24 hours.) These images were on a CD that apparently had been overlooked when the other images were processed.

Please note that there is still no image for page 227. I am looking into whether an image for the page was included with the Blue Book scans, and I have not yet located it.

Missing text added to review of Leaves of Grass Imprints

I have filled in some gaps in the text of a LoG Imprints review (http://whitmanarchive.org/criticism/reviews/leaves_imprints1860/anc.00274.html) based on Ken's reading of the original copy during his recent trip to Brooklyn.

Another typo fixed

I have corrected another typo that Ken spotted in the "Credit" section of the caption to one of our Whitman images (http://whitmanarchive.org/multimedia/image122b.html?sort=year&order=ascending&page=13). The line now correctly reads " Hirshhorn Museum."

I have fixed a typo on page iv of the 1855 Leaves of Grass ("adn" --> "and").

Slight change made to biographical essay

I have altered the first sentence of Ed and Ken's biographical essay on Whitman by shortening the information on his birthplace to "in West Hills on Long Island." A user of the Archive from New York helpfully pointed out that the previous phrasing was incorrect, since West Hills is near Huntington, Long Island, rather than Hempstead.

Civil War correspondence added to the site

We have enhanced the site by publishing the Civil War correspondence of Whitman. Thanks go the NHPRC for supporting this work. In editing more than 600 letters, the Whitman Archive has created the first two-way correspondence treating these key years in Whitman's life. This contribution represents the combined effort of Whitman Archive staff at the Universities of Iowa, Virginia, and Nebraska-Lincoln.

Downloads of raw LG and reviews files added

I created a zip archive of each of the Leaves of Grass texts and a single zip archive of the 210 reviews files. These are now available from the Downloads page (http://whitmanarchive.org/downloads/index.html), the design of which I have tweaked to accord with similar pages on the site.
